How To Remove Automotive Rust

It is possible for your car's paint to peel off and there may be some areas of your car which will have rust on it. Rusting is achieved when oxidation occurs on iron and any of its alloys. Of course, preparation is the first step. You need to use a sand paper made of 150-grit in order to remove the rust, the paint and primer around the affected area. Make sure that you sand the area so that the only thing remaining will be the metal. Make it a point to even out the edges of the area so that you are unable to feel any borders between the metal part and the unaffected areas surrounding it.

Second step is repair. For this step you need to fill in the gaps or small holes caused by the rust. You can buy an automotive filler and use it to cover up these holes. After letting the filler dry, we then smooth the area by using a 120-grit sand paper in and around the filled area. Our main objective is to make sure that the area is in line with the original surface. Once it is leveled you have to use a 120-grit sandpaper to smooth it thoroughly.

Third step is to do painting and finishing. Use automotive tape to cover the surrounding areas that you will not be painting. Spray three light coatings of paint primer on the surface. Let dry each coating before spraying the next coat. After letting the primer dry, you can then spray the paint on using at least three to four coatings on the affected area. Allow the paint to dry. It is recommended that you let the area dry for one whole day to be sure that it is indeed dry already.

After this use a microfiber cloth and grease to create a sheen on the dried area. Then wash the car and apply wax on it to make sure that the car achieves that shiny look.
